The CECS Garage
The College of Engineering and Computational Sciences (CECS) Garage is a resource for students to build, test, and document their creations. First opened in the Spring of 2014, the Garage houses equipment and trained student workers to support the research, design, and entrepreneurial activities of Mines students. Current capabilities include plastic 3D Printing, Laser Cutting/Etching, Vacuum Forming, 3D Scanning, Thermal Imaging, and Material Testing equipment. Additionally, tools, instruments, and audio/video equipment are available for student use and check-out.

GARAGE USE POLICIES
All undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in courses and CECS faculty and staff are eligible to work in The Garage during open hours, under the supervision of trained staff. Priority is given to class projects over personal projects. Priority is given to class projects for higher course numbers.
The staff reserves the right to refuse a 3D Print or laser project if there is an excessive backlog on the machines, if the part is a poor fit for the technology, or if there is a problem with the geometry (for example, multiple failed attempts to produce the part).
The possession of firearms and other weapons on or within Mines’ campus, property or leased premises is prohibited. Therefore, the use of Garage equipment to produce weapons is expressly prohibited and student staff will turn away any students attempting to create weapons in the facility.

A sincere thanks to the Mines Tech Fee Committee and their continued support of The Garage. Much of the equipment available has been purchased with Tech Fee funds requested with the help of CECS faculty in Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Thanks!
